Edith Thelma Ballard Evert
Edith Thelma Ballard Evert, 84, of Orem, Utah, died Jan. 9, 2002, at Orem Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following pneumonia.
She was born Jan. 4, 1918, in Foxworth, Miss., the daughter of William Washington and Amazon River Evans Ballard. She married Arthur Lawrence Evert June 2, 1937, in Corpus Christi, Texas. On June 29, 1937, their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. She especially loved teaching children in primary. She was a wonderful mother and beloved grandmother. She loved to be busy and created many pieces of beautiful handwork.
She is survived by son Douglas Evert of Cody, daughters Carolyn (James) Briggs of Murray, Utah, Marianne (Ronald) Stamm of Syracuse, Utah, Diana (Charles) Tolson and Joyce (Robert) Rowberry, both of Orem, 39 grandchildren, 92 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, and sisters Anna Lee McClendon of Fredrickburg, Texas, and Eva Rae Blair of College Station, Texas.
She was preceded in death by a son Lawrence Evert, whose remains were found in Vietnam and returned to the U.S. on Oct. 4, 2001, and by four brothers and three sisters.
Her funeral was Jan. 14, 2002 at the Timpview 5th Ward LDS Chapel in Orem. Interment was in the Provo City cemetery, Provo, Utah, Utah, United States
