IAW "The Free State of Jones", Bynum, Victoria E. - indicates William "Bill" Morgan was shot in the head and killed at Newton Knight's, his brother-in-law's, home. The book indicates there were no wittnesses but it was alledged that Newton Knight killed him as Bill had frequently whipped Newtons children and had tried to slip into Serena's (Newton's wife) bed while Newton was away as a Confederate solder.
