On the evening of the eleventh of March, God called the spirit of Mr. P. M. Givens to His home in Heaven. He had been ill just one week of pneumonia and from the first it seemed he had no thought of recovery, nor did he resent the will of the Lord. He was perfectly resigned. The night of Mr. Johnnie's funeral he said he wished it had been God's will for him to have taken his son's place as he was not needed so badly.
Mr. Givens was sixty-five years of age, was a member of the Methodist Church and a consecrated Christian. He was perfectly devoted to his family, not one of them can ever recall his speaking crossly to them. He let his light shine and his friends were many, if he had any enemies we do not know of them.
He always did his duty in everything, ‘tho at times it might have been hard, was always ready when it came to his church. His home was his pastor's also and never was a stranger known to be unwelcome there. He leaves a faithful wife and nine children – four sons and five daughters to mourn his loss.
Truly it seems as if God has seen fit to send more trouble to them than they can bear, but we know He has promised comfort to those who mourn, and He will not forsake them now if only they will ask it.
